Romans
12:9
9
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave
to that which is good.
As
human beings, we are usually careful to take care of ourselves physically.
Paul is telling us here that we need to take care of our spirits
and minds just as diligently as we watch over the natural care of
our human bodies. I have found that physical exercise does keep
me from some of the sore joint and aches and pains that accompany
my body when I back off my exercise program at the local YMCA. I
can always tell when I have been down with the flu or been out traveling
for a few days that I get out of my regime.
It
is the same way with my spirit. When I allow my mind to be invaded
by wrong information or even images that come from a magazine or
even television that are evil, the entrance of those images into
my mind and spirit can wreak havoc in my life for years to come.
Our mind is like a television screen and what you allow into your
mind can live in your imagination for a very long time.
Matthew
12:34-35 O generation of vipers,
how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance
of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A
good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good
things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth
evil things.
Here
Jesus is speaking to two different types of people! A good man and
an evil man. From those who want to do good will evidently put in
those good things and those who want to do and be evil will store
up for themselves an evil treasure and therefore that is what will
come forth. So instead of filling our thoughts and ways with the
evil of the world we need to seek those things which proceed from
above. The Godly things!
