THE JOY OF THE LORD

Nehemiah 8:10

10 And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of choice foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad , for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”

Hab 3:18-19 Habakkuk 3:18-19

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord ! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation. 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He will make me as surefooted as a deer and bring me safely over the mountains .

The two Scripture verses above gives us some very important information about “the Joy of the Lord”. The first thing to take note of is the strength from the Lord that comes from it. Second, it tells us what to do with the “ Joy of the Lord” and how to respond to it. This Joy, that comes from the Holy Spirit, is something better than happiness. Happiness can be fleeting. Jesus gave His disciples the joy, real joy, through the Holy Spirit on those led by the Spirit. Luke 10:21 Then Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. In this verse, the expression of joy was more than a good feeling. He rejoiced because of what God was doing through the seventy that He sent out.

All through the life of Jesus there is an underlying note of joy, even as He faced the Cross. Part of this was in anticipation of the future. But a great part was because of the life He lived in the Spirit. Through the Spirit He knew peace and joy. John 15:11 He tells us the importance of what He wants for us. 11 I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! And Galatians 5:22 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy , peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ………..

So with this Joy of His we are to:

  1. Go and Celebrate in the Lord
  2. Rejoice in the Lord
  3. Don't be rejected and sad about life
  4. The Joy that is the ultimate Joy to rejoice in is our Heavenly home.

Praise the Lord for His Joy; RECEIVE IT TODAY AND LET IT BE YOUR STRENGTH!
