WALKING
IN THE SPIRIT
This
I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust
of the flesh.
Galatians
5:16
I
know blind people who know their house, inside and out, their surroundings
so well that they know exactly where they are all the time. One
time a friend of mine was taking a blind gentleman to his home and
let him off on the wrong corner of the block from where his house
was located. The blind gentleman had no idea where he was at until
he started walking and feeling the sidewalk with its cracks and
dips. Then he could figure out where his house was at. The reason
for this is because he and his wife, who could see, had walked that
route so many times that he was familiar with what was under his
feet. He had walked that one path so habitually that he knew where
he was. The reason was because it was his path, his sphere, the
place where he had habitually lived and functioned.
This
is how we are to “ walk in the Spirit”. This walk should
be second nature to us. We should need no help to walk there because
we know the path. We should know the path so well and know that
it is so safe and comfortable there. My blind friend discovered
that he had no reason to be anxious about where he was because he
was so familiar with the route. So, we should be so; we should have
a feeling of restfulness, peacefulness and calm when walking in
the Spirit. The stress and anxieties of life are removed.
The
other part of that verse tells us that as we “ walk in the Spirit”,
we shall not “fulfil the lust of the flesh”. Walking
in the Spirit should be a habit instead of our former walk of the
lust of the flesh. When you “walk in the Spirit” you leave
the low life and you walk in a higher realm. You will experience
the Fruit of the Spirit life style. The Spirit always produces life.
What a contrast to the rotten, decaying garbage that the flesh produces.
If
you haven't tried the Spiritual walk of the Holy Spirit, how about
giving Him a chance! Walk with Him and you'll find the Joy of the
Lord.
