Addicts Victorious'

Testimony of the Month

My mother and father were both alcoholics.  Mother died in 1990 and Father in 1996.  Many hurtful things happened in my childhood and young adult years.

On January 9th, 1991, my wife and I divorced, and I was given full custody of my daughter.  My drinking had already begun.  By 1996 I had received my first DWI.  Even though I was, by then, drinking heavily, I was attending school for training in heating and cooling.  I was sent home a number of times due to the fact that I smelled like liquor.  Despite this, I managed to graduate with a 93% grade point average.  However, for the next 1 1/2 years I did not seek gainful employment; instead I just sat at home and drank everyday.  Finally, the woman I was living with at the time made me get a job.  So, I just worked and drank; that is all that my life seemed to consist of.

My relationship with the woman I was living with was quite bumpy.  Finally, I moved out and got my own apartment.  While living alone I got my second DWI.  With no license I lost my job.  With no job I lost my home and custody of my daughter.  I had lost everything and no longer wanted to live.  By this time my alcoholism was totally uncontrollable.  I drank a fifth of Seagram's 7 every day and it made me mean.

One day I had had enough of this life and decided that I wanted to die.  I drank a fifth of Seagram's in 45 minutes, developed severe alcohol poisoning and actually died twice that day.  One of my buddies came by my house, saw me lying on the floor, and called 911.  The ambulance attendants resuscitated me in my apartment by bagging me, and then had to do it again while I was in the ambulance en route to the hospital.

I was admitted to the hospital for rehab and was placed on suicide watch for 5 days.  After that I was dry for 3 months, but fell again, and ended up going back a second time for another 5 day suicide watch and rehab.  Rehab just didn't work at all!  That time I stayed dry for only 3 days!  I continued to drink even heavier than before while living in a ‘no-tell motel.’  Just before some people from my church rescued me to take me to the Addicts Victorious 5-Day Biblical Counseling Program, I bought 8 bottles of whiskey with the intention of drinking until I was dead.  I truthfully believe that God sent angels for me that day.

By the time I got to Addicts Victorious, I was ready to accept the Lord and His help in overcoming my addiction.  The first day, I rededicated my life to the Lord and prayed for deliverance from my alcoholism.  The second day, I realized that the alcohol is what caused me to lose my daughter.  By the third day, the Lord had stepped in enough that the alcoholism began to let loose of me, and I realized that my daughter and family really do love me.

The Addicts Victorious 5-Day Biblical Counseling Program, and all of the people involved, helped me find total deliverance and total spiritual happiness.  I have never experienced so much love and acceptance from the people who counseled with me, and I never once felt any judgment or condemnation!  I am so convinced of God's delivering power, and the way He uses Addicts Victorious, that another gentleman and I will be starting a new Addicts Victorious Support Group Program in our home church, or wherever God leads us.  Praise the Lord!!
